Lepidolite is a lithium and potassium phyllosilicate belonging to the mica group, with the chemical formula K(Li,Al)₃(AlSi₃)O₁₀(OH,F)₂. It forms predominantly in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites, often associated with other litiferous minerals such as tourmaline, spodumene and amblygonite. Its color — which varies between pink, lilac, purple and occasionally colorless or yellowish — results from the presence of manganese in its crystalline structure. Perfect cleavage in one direction, characteristic of the mica group, gives the mineral its laminated appearance and vitreous to pearly luster on the cleavage surfaces. Hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale. Density: 2.8 to 2.9 g/cm³. Crystalline system: monoclinic. Available variations, approximate data: 1 to 3 cm — Approx. 0.010 kg — 250 pcs per kg 3 to 6 cm — 0.030 to 0.150 kg — 30 pieces per kg 6 to 15 cm — 0.150 to 0.800 kg — 2 to 3 pieces per kg
