Fuchsite is a variety of the mica group, specifically a muscovite rich in chromium, with the chemical formula KAl₂(AlSi₃)O₁₀(OH)₂ where part of the aluminum is replaced by chromium (Cr³⁺). It forms predominantly in low- to medium-grade metamorphic rocks, such as schists and phyllites, and in hydrothermal veins associated with chromium-rich ultramafic deposits. Its characteristic green color — which varies from light green to intense emerald green — results directly from the presence of chromium (Cr³⁺) in its crystalline structure. The intensity of the green is proportional to the concentration of chromium replacing aluminum in the mineral network. It has a vitreous to pearly luster and perfect cleavage in one direction, typical of the mica group. Hardness: 2 to 3 on the Mohs scale. Density: 2.8 to 2.9 g/cm³. Crystalline system: monoclinic. Available variations, approximate data: 1 to 3 cm — Approx. 0.010 kg — 250 pcs per kg 3 to 6 cm — 0.030 to 0.150 kg — 30 pieces per kg 6 to 15 cm — 0.150 to 0.800 kg — 2 to 3 pieces per kg
