Natural Amazonite — Raw

Amazonite is a variety of potassium feldspar from the microcline group, with the chemical formula KAlSi₃O₈. It forms in granite pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, crystallizing in slowly cooling environments with availability of potassium, aluminum and silica. Its characteristic color — which varies between light green, bluish green and turquoise — is attributed to the presence of traces of lead (Pb) and water in structural defects in the crystalline lattice, partially replacing potassium during mineral formation. The intensity of the color is directly related to the concentration of these elements in the structure. Hardness: 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Density: 2.56 to 2.58 g/cm³.
